Abstract

The postmodernity setting facilitates the criminality of outcasts in the system, according to Merton’s theory of anomie. In this context, the article analyzes “social exclusion and criminality” through property crimes because poverty is a direct causation of these crimes. The study of aporophobic institutions indicates that property crimes are the most common factor in police forces, courts, and prison statistics. Therefore, outcasts are over-represented in the criminal system. This is due to the criminalization of poverty and criminal selectivity that is exercised by the neoliberal institutional framework.
