Abstract

This study analyzes the most relevant issues about the judicial application of the reviewable life imprisonment sentence in Spain, which was introduced in 2015 as a penalty officially called “reviewable permanent imprisonment”. We identify therefore the regulatory framework within which this penalty is included and the most important considerations about this subject explained by the legal scholarship. After that, we also gonna study the jurisprudence that has considered and eventually imposed this penal sanction. We’re gonna pay special attention to the cases that have brought more interpretive problems, and treat the possibility of applying a safety measure correlative to the reviewable permanent imprisonment.
