The book of Giadomenico Dodaro is about the Italian Professor of Criminal Law and politician, Giuliano Vassalli, but as well a History of the Italian Criminal Law during the fascist regime. Vassalli joined then to the illegal Socialist Party and as “partigiano” he was imprisoned and tortured by the Nazi troops in Rome, but thanks to the personal intervention of Pope Pius XII he was not executed. After 1945 he participated in the process of Transitional Justice and in the Italian Democratic Republic he became, for the Socialist Party, member of the Parliament and Senate, Minister of Justice, and President of the Constitutional Court.
